Sunday 31st May 2009

The skyscapes here on Lewis are a never-ending source of pleasure to me.

Saturday 30th May 2009

everywhere you turn on the Island of Lewis there is something to photograph.

Like these lichens on a post.

Friday 29th May 2009

Wall to wall sunshine.

Weather Gods, please note, this is the weather I should like for the rest of my stay on Lewis.

Thursday 28th May 2009

Early this morning we had one very brief moment of sunshine so I grabbed this photo.

The rest of the day has been misty, drizzly and, truth be told, downright miserable.

Wednesday 27th May 2009

I had a couple of hours down on the beach today and only met two living souls - David taking Briagha for a walk.

Actually it was Briagha taking David for a walk.

Tuesday 26th May 2009

Combine sunshine with showers and you get a....

....rainbow.

Monday 25th May 2009

This is Misha.

Looking through the bannisters at this strange chap with a camera.

Sunday 24th May 2009

It was wet for much of the day and I wasn't feeling at my brightest so it was late in the day before I took my daily photo.

This is the view of Upper Bayble and Bayble Bay from GB's front door and no doubt I shall photograph it many more times in the next few weeks.

Saturday 23rd May 2009

On Saturday we drove up to Ullapool and crossed over on the ferry to the Isle of Lewis.

The sun was beginning to set over the war memorial as we left Stornoway but it remains light for much of the night at these latitudes.

Friday 22nd May 2009

As GB drives I take lots and lots of photos through the car window.

Some of them turn out poorly because of the reflections or the speed but a few make the effort worthwhile. This tree, for example, between Dunblane and Crieff.

Thursday 21st May 2009

On Thursday GB drove me up to the Lake District and we spent the night at the Queens Hotel.

It was excellent service, excellent food and this was the view from the bedroom window.

Wednesday 20th May 2009

And here is one for Jen....

...who takes some great photos of abandoned buildings and gravestones and also plays with black and white.

Tuesday 19th May 2009

"I don't know about you, GB, but I don't think this soap is very good for the complexion...."

Tuesday, 19 May 2009

Monday 18th May 2009

GB arrived at Helen's.

Sunday 17th May 2009

It's a hard life being a cat.

You have to sit on people's laps and let them take photos of you...
(Sorry if you aren't a cat lover but it was either another photo of William or a picture of a rather uninspiring leatherjacket - i.e. a crane-fly larva. That's virtually all I took today.)

Saturday 16th May 2009

At 6 a.m. Ian began a journey to Washington and the Bahamas where he has been invited to give talks on the environment.

What better way to start such a journey than in an eco-friendly taxi?

Friday 15th May 2009

Welsh Poppies are one of my favourite flowers.

They seem to have found favour with this bumble-bee as well - its pollen sacs were full to bursting.

Thursday 14th May 2009

A visitor to Frog End.

Wednesday 13th May 2009

Despite a constant light drizzle I had another day exploring Exeter.

Highlight of the day was a visit to Cricklepit Mill - home of the Devon Wildlife Trust.

Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Tuesday 12th May 2009

Apart from a trip to the Post Office I stayed around the house and garden today, recovering from yesterday's long walk.

William decided that so long as he was always between me and the cupboard where the food is stored he wouldn't miss anything.

Monday 11th May 2009

I had a long walk around Exeter and along the River Exe today.

This is one of the prettiest corners of Exeter.

Monday, 11 May 2009

Sunday 10th May 2009

Baby Goldfinches were in the garden at Frog End today.

It’s no use cheeping at me - I’m a baby too!

Sunday, 10 May 2009

Saturday 9th May 2009

I had a wander around Exeter city centre today and dropped in at St Nicholas' Priory which subsequently became a Tudor merchant's house and is furnished accordingly.

Friday 8th May 2009

I wonder if God won a Design Award for his Lupin Leaf?

Thursday, 7 May 2009

Thursday 7th May 2009

Free range eggs....

A Large White butterfly has been laying eggs on the Sweet Rocket in Helen's garden. I love their sculptural shape.

Wednesday 6th May 2009

A trip to Devon would not be complete without a visit to Otter Nurseries.

Tuesday, 5 May 2009

Tuesday 5th May 2009

Helen, in serious mood, working on her laptop.

Monday, 4 May 2009

Monday 4th May 2009

A patriotic pussy cat.

"We are not amused!"

I'm afraid there's bad news William - this guy is going to be looking after you for a week.

Sunday, 3 May 2009

Sunday 3rd May 2009

This morning Jo and I watched the Great Western Run go paat the bottom of Helen and Ian's road.

Saturday 2nd May 2009

Ian and Helen took Jo and I out for the day. We had a walk around Chudleigh Knighton Heath :-

We went to Bovey Tracy for lunch. In the afternoon we walked around the lake at Stover Country Park.

Saturday, 2 May 2009

Friday 1st May 2009

Jo and I headed down to Exeter today.

We went the pretty way which included a trip along the Wye Valley between Monmouth and Chepstow.
