After going to Broadgreen Hospital today I wandered around Liverpool.  The minton tiled floor in St George's Hall is 'revealed' at the moment.  In 1883 it was covered with a wooden dance floor to preserve the tiles and it is only revealed about once every ten years.

The 30,000 tiles were laid in 1852 at a cost of £2,000.  It is 140 feet long and 70 feet wide.  Minton tiles from the Mointon Hollins factory in Stoke-on-Trent can be found worldwide and appear around fireplaces in the White House.

I had a walk around Liverpool for a few hours today and went into the heritage centre in St George's Hall. St George's Hall, opened in 1854, is widely regarded as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world and is a Grade I listed building. It contains concert halls and law courts, and this magnificent ceiling is in the main concert room.

Soldiers just back from Afghanistan parade outside St George's Hall in Liverpool in memory of their comrades who died over there.
